Le Grand Bornand is a tourist resort located on the scenic Western slope of the Aravis mountain range. Only one hours drive from Geneva, Switzerland, Le Grand Bornand is also 40 minutes from the beautiful Annecy Lake, known as Europe’s cleanest lake, perfect for those who enjoy water sports. Le Grand Bornand is also near Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in the Alps and in Western Europe.

The summit reaches 4,810 meters and spans into Italy. Le Grand Bornand is a summer and winter resort that was developed around an old farming village. Over the years, Le Grand Bornand has become a tourist attraction, due to its beautiful scenery and Le Grand Bornand offers some wonderful skiing opportunities with 60km of unspoilt snow. You can enjoy skiing, snowboarding, gliding or even make a snowman!

Le Grand Bornand and Alpine Sports

Le Grand Bornand produced a number of Winter Olympic medallists in 2006. Roddy Darragon won the silver medal for cross-country skiing, whilst Slyvie Bacaert won the bronze medal for the biathlon and she is also the 2005 world champion. The biathlon is made up of cross-country skiing and rifle shooting.

Le Grand Bornand and the Tour de France

Le Grand Bornand is also famous for the Tour De France. In previous events, Le Grand Bornand has been used as a check point. In 2004, at stage 17, winner of the Tour De France for 6 years in a row Lance Armstrong entered Le Grand Bornand. This is the third time that Le Grand Bornand made an appearance as a departure, firstly in 1995, 1999 and in 2007. Twice as a finish point in 2004 and in 2007.
